Random Update from Body Team

Dear reader, thanks for your patient (or impatient) waiting for the new update, which I had promised to post one month ago. As said, this is a somewhat random summary of random events that happened from winter break to last week.

During Winter Break …

He that would perfect his work must first sharpen his tools.

In home depot, Srini was carefully selecting materials for our big sanding platform construction. (However, the bolts were all wrong and I had to go buy them again)

Lack of money is no obstacle. Lack of an idea is an obstacle.

Since we did not want to spend extra money on delivery, we figured out a way to transport those 10 feet long pinewood back to UBC. That is, to tie them on top of the car!

Everything is funny as long as it is happening to Somebody Else.

There was a minor problem with this solution—Srini and Chris had to get in and out of the car by climbing through the windows. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of Srini got out of the car with hands first!

Haste in every business brings failure

Without much thought on practicality, Aaron, me and Srini quickly built our first sanding platform, which was high enough to allow us to sand comfortably. Yet we soon realized that it was impossible to lift our crazy heavy plug to this height.

Failure is the mother of success

Thankfully, we quickly rebuilt another platform, which works out just fine.

First few weeks of School …

It's blood, sweat, sometimes tears

After some incredibly painful labor, our plugs are finally ready for hardcore sanding. (Srini and Morgan sanding inside a tent)

Safety is our number one priority!

A reminder from the safety officer: you must wear a mask and cover all at all times!

To know the road ahead, ask those coming back

Supermileage alumni (Kevin, Firman, Jon) came to visit the team. Kevin (the one holding the wheels) was giving out suggestions to the rest of us.

Bubble tea is truly the source of my passion and energy—Srini

Jon, thanks for treating us bubble tea.

Sawdust, sawdust everywhere…

Despite the wet, moody and humid weather of the seemingly endless rainy season of Vancouver, the spirit of the Supermileage body team is sunny and joyous. After finally securing our material of the year, MDF, 1 week of crazy shopping and 3 weeks of testing our crazy/ingenious ideas (which gave us a ridiculous 1 month delay); the body team is finally settled for the plug construction.

“The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones,” as the saying goes, building a super smooth, curvaceous body plug begins by cutting numerous pieces of cross sections into its more accurate shape, accompanied by the tedious cleaning of our “dusty hut” after one day of hardcore labour (teams that are trying to use MDF, be prepared!)

Of course, a team of hungry engineers will not produce anything constructive. Beside the hard work and the dedication, continuous food supplies has become an absolute must for our team. Typical construction days have menus like this:

9: 30 – 11:30 Breakfast from MacDonald’s
Main course: Lunch / Breakfast combo sandwiches
Side dishes: carrot/blueberry/cranberry muffins
Salads: side garden salad
Snack: chicken nuggets/ French Fries/ Hash brown
Appetizers: yummy apple/strawberry pies
Drinks: apple juice/water/chocolate milk (Wen’s all time favourite!)

1:30- 3:30 Lunch from UBC’s infamous Vallagian…
Chow mien or fried rice from Cantonese restaurant
Sushi or Vegetarian combo from Osaka Sushi
Indian/Korean/Middle East food from places I can’t name

6:30-9:00 Dinner
Usually from one of the Japanese restaurant,
Or whatever that was open………

Late night or when we feel like it
Chef’s special at Morgan’s place
* Special treat from body team’s professional chef Morgan!!
Ranging from spicy curry to Taiwanese meat sauce tofu, depending on what he has in his fridge.

And finally, a Supermileage recipe for a perfect body:

Ingredients
N pieces of MDF + cross sections (N approaches infinity)
1 cup of Epoxy + CF wrappers

Seasoning:
½ cup of dedication + 1 tablespoon of stress
1 cup of passion + 5 cups greasy but nevertheless fulfilling food (for vegetarian: use passion fruit bubble tea + “artificial crab sushi” instead ^^ )
1 cup of UBC Supermileage secret weapons

How to Prepare:

Basically, you just mix everything else together, and wrap them in the CF wrapping in the end.

So what are the secret weapons? You ask.
Option 1: Join our team and help us out!!!!
Option 2: Stay tuned to our blog!

All right, bed time for me. Good night everyone!

Super Aero/Body Nights

The Super Aero/Body team's going hardcore with the female mould construction this year. Working later and later into the evening would not be possible without Super Nutrition. Above is the Super Supper made by the Aero/Body team to keep us awake and alive after so much bloody sanding. Note the Red Rooster hot sauce in the background, a key stimulant necessary to achieve high-quality sanded surfaces.

Keep posted for more news on the Female Mould. We've successfully vacuum bagged three prototypes as of today, and we'll be working out some more kinks tomorrow to try a fourth and if necessary, fifth.

More pictures will be posted soon.

Webmail Problems

It seems our webserver is having horrific problems that we can't immediately sort out. Until that time, if anyone wishes to contact the team, please send an email to supermileage@gmail.com.

The Vehicle has Landed!

Just a quickie.

We got word this afternoon that our vehicle safely arrived in Hiroshima! *Phewf* A big sigh of relief on our side as we were worried that we would have troubles getting our shipment through customs. Things went quite smoothly. Shown above is a photo that was sent to us by Mr. Nakane of team Fancy Carol. Depicted is a man curiously examining the small box as it was twice as heavy as the larger box.

We leave in two days from the Land of the Rising Gas prices to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Sayonara!
