Mission

The Multi-scale Design Laboratory applies design expertise from both mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, as well as fabrication techniques spanning from nano to micro to macro size-scales to develop enabling technologies in medicine and biological research. We are specifically engaged in areas of microfabrication, microfluidics, bioinstrumentation, biophysics, precision machine design, electronic circuit design, and embedded systems design. Our current foci include the development of 1) microfluidic cell separation devices for a variety of applications in medical diagnostics and treatment, and 2) practical medical devices designed to reduce the cost of clinical medicine.
