Mission The Multi-scale Design Laboratory applies design expertise from mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, as well as fabrication techniques spanning from micro to macro length-scales to develop enabling technologies in medicine and biology. We are specifically engaged in areas of microfabrication, microfluidics, biophysics, bioinstrumentation, biomedical device design, and embedded systems design. Our current foci include the development of 1) microfluidic cell separation devices for a variety of applications in medical diagnostics and treatment, and 2) practical medical devices designed to reduce the cost of clinical medicine for use in developed and developing regions. We recruit motivated, creative, and hands-on students from Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Chemical Engineering.
